Traditionally sunburst mirrors were finished in gold however these mirrors are now available in a wide range of finishes including; silver bronze and black colours as well as wooden and even mirrored glass finishes offering a contemporary feel.
At one time mirrors were made using a backing of mercury but these are no longer manufactured. They can also be made using silver precipitated from a silver nitrate solution. However today most mirrors are made by evaporating aluminum onto glass although other coats are applied to improve adhesion and durability. For example a black backing can be applied to improve opacity and reflectivity.
The mirror is function: Suppose there is a small room e.g. a small-sized bathroom. In this bathroom the mirror is obviously functional. It is used by the man for shaving for example to wash teeth. However when a piece is so obviously functional as the mirror there are ways to make the mirror more decorative. I am saying here that in some way it is easier to make something so functional as the mirror in this bathroom setting into something decorative. You can aim to have a mirror with some element of ornamentation or you can choose to have a certain type of glass for the mirror. You can choose to have a certain color scheme in the bathroom and to use the mirror as the central element in this scheme.
Most American furniture manufacturers include mirrors in their range of bedroom furniture and some also manufacture mirrors for the living room or dining room. Bedroom mirrors are not necessarily restricted to that room and many are used all over the house - wherever reflection and a need to expand a room are required.
Mirrored Candle Arrangements - Candles and mirrors just naturally go well together. To create extra sparkle on your mantelpiece lay an unframed mirror or a piece of mirrored tile directly on the mantel surface. Then hang or prop a small mirror behind it. Set one or more candles on the mirror creating an interesting arrangement. Using candles of different heights will add to the visual appeal. Then when the candles are lit the mirrors under and behind the candles will create extra shine and sparkle.
A similar technique can be used in your hallway. Imagine your hallway brighter larger and much more appealing. Whether you choose floor to ceiling wall mirrors or a rectangular wall mirror you will be glad that you have chosen a mirror as your design element. The mirror can successfully add additional light to your hallway as well as creating an inviting space within your home. A crowded hallway would also benefit from the use of a wall mirror helping to define and open up the space.
